�ֲ���ý alumnus serving the community through KYAE

Destiny Conner, a May 2025 graduate of �ֲ���ý, is now giving back to the communities that served her throughout her academic journey. 

Conner is currently employed with the Reentry & Employment Services Branch through Kentucky Adult Education (KYAE). In her role, she works directly on the foundation that she developed when earning her associate degree in business at �ֲ���ý. 

“The knowledge I gained in communication, organizational management, and community engagement has helped me better serve individuals navigating reentry and workforce challenges,” Conner remarked. “My education provided me with both the structure and understanding of how to connect resources effectively—skills I now apply daily when assisting individuals in obtaining IDs, transcripts for GED testing, employment opportunities, and supportive services after employment is secured.”

As an alumnus of the Maysville Campus, Conner feels great about giving back to those same communities that once served her. Working directly with students and job seekers helps her to get firsthand experience in understanding their struggles, growth, and determination. 

“Seeing individuals gain confidence, reach milestones, and ultimately build stronger futures is incredibly rewarding—and I feel privileged to play even a small part in that process,” she said.

According to Conner, the college and the branch where she is employed strengthen success through collaboration when students face reentry-related challenges. In some cases, that can be through themselves or the people who surround them. 

“Together, we can help guide individuals through transitional processes, connecting them to resources, information, and next steps that support both their educational and employment goals,” Conner explained. “By maintaining open communication and a shared commitment to service, we can ensure that every student has access to the support they need to succeed beyond the classroom.”

She shared some advice for current and former �ֲ���ý students who are preparing to take their next steps into the workforce. 

“My advice to current �ֲ���ý students is to communicate openly and often with your professors and advisors—don’t be afraid to ask questions or seek guidance. Take advantage of the many programs and resources available through your local Kentucky Career Center or online at the KCC website. There are workshops, career assessments, and supportive services designed to help you build confidence and direction,” she said.

She noted the importance of advocating for yourself, doing research, and believing in your ability to achieve the goals set before you. 

“You are absolutely capable and worth the effort it takes to reach them,” Conner concluded.
